Successo è autostima

Ma la sicurezza in sé stessi è qualcosa di innato o si può imparare ad apprendere crescendo?

E’ una domanda che mi pongo spesso, di ritorno da attività di Business Coaching in azienda.

Ho fatto diverse considerazioni su quali fossero i fattori che le persone di successo mettono in campo tutti i giorni per alimentare la loro motivazione.

La risposta è che non esiste una verità assoluta; si può nascere con una personalità forte e perdere fiducia in sé mentalizzando in modo negativo le esperienze nel corso della vita, oppure svilupparla lavorando sulla propria persona e migliorando i pensieri che generano azioni e autoconsapevolezza. 

In ogni caso, le persone che hanno stima di sé sanno quel che valgono e quello che vogliono:

1° Pensano almeno di valere quanto gli altri o un pelino di più: uno dei cardini dell’autostima è credere di non essere di meno valore degli altri.  Chiariamoci, questo non vuole dire che nella vita dobbiamo aspettarci una giusta distribuzione dei guadagni solo perché valiamo in modo uguale agli altri, ma che ognuno ha l’opportunità di cercare e di ottenere il massimo che desidera dalla propria vita.

2° Mettono in discussione il loro punto di vista e non se stesse: le insicurezze hanno la loro utilità, sono campanellini di allarme e sinonimi del fatto che non ci siamo preparati bene in un certo ambito sapendo che possiamo – e dobbiamo – fare meglio.

3° Sono decisi, ma non avventati: come conseguenza del punto 2, quando una persona che ha fiducia di sé sa di essere pronta sa al contempo che se aspetta di essere “perfetta” muore prima di iniziare.

4° Sanno riconoscere la fiducia in sé stessi dall’arroganza: le persone provano paura dell’autostima e la confondono con l’arroganza, quel modo di fare delle persone concentrate solo su sé stesse e che vogliono avere ragione a tutti i costi: l’autostima, però, è tutt’altra cosa. Chi ha sicurezza in sé stesso è centrato sui propri valori, sa quanto vale e dà valore anche agli altri comprendendo che le questioni sono solo un punto di vista condivisibile o meno.

5° Riconoscono che il fallimento è un momento di crescita: chi fallisce non fallisce come persona, ma nel modo col quale ha provato a fare qualcosa. Ogni volta che fallisce, dunque, impara qualcosa di nuovo e apprende come affrontare con il giusto spirito le cadute trovando una soluzione ai problemi evitando di dare colpa a se stesso.

6° Prima sparano e poi mirano: sanno che la perfezione è un’utopia, tutto è perfettibile nella misura in cui si inizia a fare qualcosa di non perfetto e, quindi, prima di tutto, fanno. Fare le cose perfettamente non necessariamente vuol dire farle bene. Ricercare la perfezione porta spesso all’immobilismo, ma tendere all’eccellenza dà motivazione.

7° Escono dalla zona di comfort: fare esperienze mai fatte prima fa capire come gli errori e i fallimenti siano motivi di crescita e miglioramento. Uscire dalla propria zona di comfort porta molto più probabilmente a fare errori e, di conseguenza, ad accettarli.
